voltage controller using LM7805 IC
Introduction:
A voltage regulator is an electrical device that regulates the voltage
in a circuit to a constant, predetermined value. It maintains a constant
output voltage despite changes in the load current or input voltage.
Voltage regulators are used to protect sensitive electrical devices from
voltage spikes and surges, and to ensure that a stable voltage is
provided to power a wide range of electrical equipment. They are
commonly found in power supplies, battery chargers, and other
applications that require stable, regulated voltage.
In our design we are using lm7805 IC, the output is set to 5V, for our design we are using EASYEDA tool, the schematic is shown below.

Here are some of the disadvantages of voltage regulators:
Cost: Voltage regulators can be relatively expensive compared to simple voltage-dropping circuits.
Efficiency: Some voltage regulators can introduce power losses in the form of heat.
Complexity: Voltage regulators can be complex and require careful design and selection to ensure that they meet the requirements of the system they are being used in.
Ripple and Noise: Voltage regulators can produce electrical noise and ripple, which can impact the performance of sensitive electronics.
Over-Voltage and Over-Current Protection: Some voltage regulators may not provide adequate protection against over-voltage and over-current conditions, potentially damaging sensitive electronics.
SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supplies) like DC-DC converter like boost/buck converter are good alternatives for voltage regulator, however the cost of hardware in making such converter is one drawback.
